Public Consultation for Submission of Suggestions by Citizens Groups for Formation of Ward Committees on 16-9-2014 organised by Urban Development Department, Govt. of Karnataka, at VIkas Soudha, Bangalore.

 

On 16-9-2014, A Public Consultation was organized at  the  office of the  Urban Development Department at Vikas SoudhaBangalore, for submission of  suggestions by  representatives of CIVIC, Namma Bengaluru Foundation, Citizen Action Forum(CAF) and other Citizen’s Groups for formation of ‘Ward Committees’ and ‘Area Sabhas’ in Bangalore and other major cities in the state.  The Consultation  was organized by  Shri. Anil Kumar, Principal Secretary, Urban Development Department, Govt. of Karnataka,  in response to the  directions of the  Hon’ble High Court to  include the suggestions of  Citizen’s Group  for amending the  Karnataka Municipal  Corporation Act.  

Smt. Kathyayini Chamaraj, Managing Trustee, CIVIC, suggested that the members of the Ward Committee should be elected along with the Corporator’s election. Each member of the Committee can be allocated different portfolios based on his/her interest /expertise. The  Ward Committees should prepare a 5 year old  vision plan as per a Performance Management System(PMS) based on human development and social  infrastructure outcomes at the ward level.

The  decisions taken by the ward committee should be implemented by the  Ward Engineers in the Ward. The  notice for the ward committee meeting  should be informed in  advance, the proceeding of the ward committee meeting should be video recorded, were the other suggestions  shared in the Consultation.

The Urban Development Department will continue the Consultation on 19-9-2014 at its office at Vikasa Soudha, Bangalore.
