opic – Bifurcation of Bangalore City: A Step in the Right Direction?
(Brief- The Government of Karnataka is currently considering a proposal to bifurcate the Bangalore city corporation or BBMP. The BBMP will redraw zonal divisions to aid administration. Currently the certain zones in the North, East and South comprise 6-8 constituencies, while other comprise one constituency implying unequal work among zonal commissioners. Will examine how the bifurcation will affect 1. Infra projects (will affect transfer of funds, repayment of loans) 2. Private companies (these companies will have to enter into separate agreements with the bifurcated authority. Post bifurcation, they will deal with two authorities). Bifurcation will also affect jurisdiction of other agencies like Bescom and the BWSSB)
