Our work at the Ward level
CIVIC is working to create two model wards in Bengaluru, Ward 60 and Ward 55, that would imbibe the dimensions of participatory planning and budgeting, transparency in administration, accountability in delivery and a robust grievance redressal system backed up with a social audit mechanism.
To implement better local governance in Bengaluru, CIVIC encourages people's participation in decision making in their wards. Bringing all classes of communities into one platform to discuss common issues of the ward has been exercised in ward 60 -Sagayapuram has resulted in participatory budgeting for the ward where in local RWA representatives took initiation in conducting meetings streetwise and to draw program of works (POW) for the year 2010-11 for their ward.
As a first step, CIVIC has brought together different communities in Ward 60 on a single platform and has drawn a plan - Programme of Works for the Year 2010-2011. It is working on to build a five pronged grievance redressal system. It is working on establishing suo motu disclosure of all departments in the Urban Local Body, the Bruhath Bengaluru Mahanagara Palaike (BBMP).
