Pilot Slum and Urban Homeless Study-2008

Despite high levels of growth of Bangalore, a considerable proportion of people continue to live in poor conditions. The question why they are getting excluded and why the growth is not trickling down to them needs serious attention. The high growth enhances the purchasing power of the affluent sections and makes life even more difficult for the less affluent. The money power and influence of the upper classes and big corporations in the corridors of power enable them to influence government decisions in their favour as it is their funds that help political parties to win elections. It is because of this that these sections rarely find the need to vote as they get what they desire even without voting, irrespective of who gets elected.
